Safety trainings are started by watching videos containing important information regarding usage of the Idea Shop. There are many videos. Some trainings may require you watch multiple videos.
Following completion of the video portion of the safety trainings, users must schedule and in-person training. Most, but not all trainings require an in-person component. The in-person training can be scheduled through the portal site.
After completing all prerequisites, the final safety training step for users is to take a short quiz. This quiz is based off of the content learned during the safety training.
Most quizzes require a 100% to pass. Users may take the quiz multiple, but a limited number of, times.
There is a one week grace period after a quiz is unlocked where users can utilize the Idea Shop, if the quiz is not passed after the grace period is past users will no longer be able to utilize the associated Idea Shop resources.
Successful completion of the quiz grants the user access to the Idea Shop during hours of operation.
Users can also find a list of all completed trainings, and re-watch videos at any time from the training interface page.
The in-person safety training time I wanted is no longer available. What should I do?
Individuals should sign up on our website to secure a spot, however walk-ins will be accepted during scheduled times assuming there is sufficient space. **Note that there are usually at least one (1) no-show to each safety training, especially in the mornings. If you have not already watched the required videos for a training you will not be able to get credit for attending the correlating in-person training.
Individual students unable to attend any scheduled safety trainings should contact Idea Shop staff via email ideashop[at]iit[dot]edu.
What happens if I show up late?
Due to the nature of the trainings, users who arrive more than five (5) minutes late to a safety training will miss hands on tool use / content. Therefore if you arrive more than five (5) minutes late you will need to sign up for a new time slot.
Why do I get a Google 403 error when trying to log into the safety training site?
Google OAuth login for our site is restricted to Illinois Tech Google accounts only.
If you receive this error repeatedly and Google does not allow you to choose an account to log in with, either:
- Log in using an incognito window.
- Log out of all google accounts and return to the site login page.
If you continue to encounter errors please reach out to our staff for assistance.
Currently users from Institute of Design and Kent Law are unable to log in using Google OAuth. We are hoping to have an alternative login option in place by mid September 2021.
