We're still finishing some great updates to our Fall 2021 safety training policy. This page will have updated information within the first few weeks of the semester.
Policy
Overview
- By logging into the new Idea Shop portal site, https://ideashop.iit.edu/portal , users can
- Start a new safety training
- Watch / re-watch training videos
- Schedule in-person training
- Complete safety quizzes
- Review completed trainings
Video(s)
Safety trainings are started by watching videos containing important information regarding usage of the Idea Shop. In total there are 4 videos to watch: General Info, Assembly Area, Knife safety, and 3D Printers.
In-Person Training
Following completion of the video portion of the safety trainings, there will be an in person portion to go over the machinery.

Users can also find a list of all completed trainings, and re-watch videos at any time from the training interface page.
FAQ
The in-person safety training time I wanted is no longer available. What should I do?
Individuals should sign up on our website to secure a spot, however walk-ins will be accepted during scheduled times assuming there is sufficient space. **Note that there are usually at least one (1) no-show to each safety training, especially in the mornings. If you have not already watched the required videos for a training you will not be able to get credit for attending the correlating in-person training.
Individual students unable to attend any scheduled safety trainings should contact Idea Shop staff via email ideashop[at]iit[dot]edu.
What happens if I show up late?
Due to the nature of the trainings, users who arrive more than five (5) minutes late to a safety training will miss hands on tool use / content. Therefore if you arrive more than five (5) minutes late you will need to sign up for a new time slot.
Why do I get a Google 403 error when trying to log into the safety training site?
Google OAuth login for our site is restricted to Illinois Tech Google accounts only.
If you receive this error repeatedly and Google does not allow you to choose an account to log in with, either:
- Log in using an incognito window.
- Log out of all google accounts and return to the site login page.
If you continue to encounter errors please reach out to our staff for assistance.
Currently users from Institute of Design and Kent Law are unable to log in using Google OAuth. We are hoping to have an alternative login option in place by mid September 2021.
