During semesters where the Idea Shop is hiring student workers, information sessions will generally be hosted while the application is live on Handshake. The purpose of these sessions is:

  • to give an overview of the position(s) responsibilities
  • answer applicant questions regarding the position
  • give applicants an opportunity to gain further information before advancing through the application process

Info sessions are optional.

Do I have to attend an information session before applying, participating in the application questionnaire, or interviewing for a position?

Attending an information session is not required however applicants may find it helpful to attend a session before completing any application questionnaire or interview(s).

What if I cannot make any of the scheduled information sessions?

If you cannot make any of the scheduled sessions but would like the opportunity to speak with one of our staff about the position please reach out to us via email and we will attempt to find a time to meet with you. ideashop[at]iit[dot]edu

Who can attend the information session?

Any current Illinois Tech student who is interested in applying for the position or who has already applied for the position may attend.

How can I access the Google Meet for the info session?

For information sessions hosted on Google Meet attendees will need to add the event to their Google Calendar (ideally using their Illinois Tech Google Account). The calendar events (listed on this page) contain the Google Meet information to join via web chat or via phone.

Who will be leading the information session?

Whenever possible, a current Idea Shop student worker from the open position will lead the session. This is done so applicants can get a realistic idea of the job responsibilities and work environment. In some scenarios the sessions will be hosted by Idea Shop full time staff or the hiring manager, however these are meant to be very informal sessions.
