Disc/Belt Sander: For sanding down larger amounts of material.
Permitted materials include:
- MDF, Plywood
- Soft Woods (Cedar, Pine, etc.)
- Hard Woods (Walnut, Maple, etc.)
See staff members before attempting to use any other material on the sander, as acrylic or other plastics will melt onto the belt.
xx To use, wait for the motor to come up to speed. Hold your piece securely and flat against the table. Keep hands at least 4” away from the sander at all times.
For the disc sander, only sand material on the front half of the disk and bed area. Sanding in the back area will lift and potentially throw your piece out of your hands.
For the belt sander, hold your piece firmly against the support platform.
- Slowly return saw to the top resting place and tighten it down. Never let go until it is secure.
- Vacuum up all debris after cutting.
Never “freehand” sand your workpiece. The sander is a powerful machine and can tear the workpiece from your grip, potentially injuring you or others.
